The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) is constitutionally charged with the primary responsibility of protecting lives and properties of its citizens and to further protect the territorial integrity of its borders against external aggression. In the same vein, additional to aiding the Civil Authority during National disasters at their request is to engage in productive ventures such as agriculture etc. It is in that spirit that the 1 Infantry Battalion engaged in the breeding of domesticated birds such as chicken, ducks and turkey for the purpose of meat and egg production. The poultry is alive to its ideals and it is already serving as a rich source of protein for the brave men and women serving under the unit.
