ARREST OF BRIGADIER GENERAL UMPA MENDY AND ANSUMANA TAMBA
The general public is hereby informed that the Gambia Armed Forces Military Police arrested Brigadiers General Umpa Mendy and Ansumana Tamba, former serving members of The Gambia Armed Forces. The two General Officers travelled with ex- President Yahya
Jammeh to Equatorial Guinea following the Political Impasse. General Umpa Mendy was the Principal Protection Officer to the ex-President
and General Ansumana Tamba, the erstwhile Commander of the State Guards Battalion arrived in The Gambia on Sunday 21 January 2018 on board a Royal Air Maroc flight from Equatorial Guinea via Morocco. They were arrested from their respective homes between 1200hrs and 1400hrs and currently detained at the Yundum Military Barracks where they are helping the Military Police with their investigations.
The Gambia Armed Forces wishes to reassure the general public that there is no cause for alarm and that The Gambia is safe and secure. All are therefore urged to go on their normal daily activities.
