The Gambia Armed Forces in collaboration with the Sister Services performed a colorful ceremonial parade led by Major Bintou Lowe in commemoration of the International Women’s Day in Banjul at the monumental Arch today 08 March 2019.
International Women’s Day is celebrated yearly on the 8th day of March. This year’s theme is; “Think equally and innovate for change.” The celebration is not just a celebration but an endeavor to close up the gender gap as there are a lower proportion of women to men in government positions and other parastatals. Also, women’s education is still not taken to be as important as that of men in many places across the globe.
The occasion was graced by the First Lady of the Republic of the Gambia Her Exellency Fatou Bah Barrow together with the newly appointed minister for womens’ affairs, children and social welfare Mrs Fatou Sanyang Kinteh. Also in attendance was the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff Major General Yakuba Drammeh, the Adjutant General of GAF Brigadier General RDK Sanneh, sister services senior female officials, International delegates and the members of the general public including various women organizations.
