The Defence Headquarters is the latest unit within the Gambia Armed Forces to reward her personnel by promoting 33 to various ranks ranging from Lance Corporal to Warrant Officer Class II. The decoration ceremony took place at the Defence Headquarters premises in Banjul on Tuesday 21st May 2019. 
The event was graced by the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff Major General Yakuba Drammeh. Delivering his keynote address, the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff advised the newly decorated soldiers on discipline, security and inter-service cooperation. He further urged the troops not to be involved in politics. He concluded by stating that serving in the military is the noblest of jobs if carried out with honesty, integrity and adherence to the Constitution.
