The Gambia Armed Forces Cooperative Credit Union (GAFCCU) through its Chairman, Lieutenant Colonel Abdoulie Manneh on 9th April expressed its commitment to the fight waged by the Gambia Armed Forces against the COVID 19 virus with a presentation of sanitary materials to the Chief of Defence Staff Major General Yakuba at his office. The donated materials which include detergents, soaps, hand washing materials and dustbins would be used by the Armed Forces in its sensitization and prevention campaign against the global pandemic.
It could be recalled that the Gambia Armed Forces on 17 March 2020 started sensitization of its personnel in all military Barracks on the preventive measures against the Coronavirus. The sensitization, which is in the form of circulars, lectures, posters as well as audio-visual materials, is aimed at raising the awareness of soldiers within all GAF military installations and Camps on the preventive measures against COVID 19 virus.
In presenting the materials, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the GAF Credit Union, Lieutenant Colonel Manneh said that the donation was part of the Union’s corporate social contribution to the fight waged by the GAF Command against the Coronavirus pandemic.
In receiving the materials on behalf of the Gambia Armed Forces and also members of the GAF Credit Union, the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Yakuba thanked the Board through the Chairman for the donation. He commended the Board for the initiative and promised them that the materials would be distributed to members through the GAF Medical Services. The Chief of Defence Staff in turn handed over the materials to the representative of the Director of GAF Medical Services, Major Kodou Jatta who stated that the materials would be very helpful in their sensitization and prevention campaign against COVID 19.
The presentation ceremony was attended by the Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Mamat O Cham, Principal Staff Officers at the Defence Headquarters and Board members of the GAF Credit Union.
