A peace advocacy organisation called ‘Gambia Kiling’, meaning One Gambia, in collaboration with the Joint Operations Center (JOC) on Sunday 25 February 2018 organised a friendly football match at the Independence Stadium in Bakau between the country’s security forces. The aim of the organisation, according to its Chairman, Mr. Momodou Salieu Jallow (also known as DJ Bombastic) is to sensitize Gambians about the importance of unity and oneness in the country.

The friendly football match saw a selection of officers and senior non-commissioned officers from the Gambia Armed Forces play against a team (Combined Security Services) composed of personnel from all the other security services like the Gambia Police Force, Immigration Department, Prisons, Fire and Rescue Services.

The historic encounter was organized by the ‘Gambia Kiling’ to recognize the efforts of the Gambia Armed and Security Forces in maintaining peace in the country especially before, during and after the political impasse that followed the last Presidential elections of 1st December 2016.

The match was attended by many senior officers of the Gambia Armed Forces including the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Masanneh Kinteh and the Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) Alhajie Alieu Momar Njie who was the Chief Guest of Honour. Lieutenant General Kinteh thanked the officials of ‘Gambia Kiling’ while noting that events like these will help to clear the misconception regarding the relationship between the citizens and the security forces in The Gambia.

Speaking to the Standard Newspaper, Momodou Salieu Jallow who is the Chairman of the organisation expressed his satisfaction and appreciation for the work the security forces are doing noting that no country can develop without peace.
