CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE

The Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Yakuba A Drammeh on Monday 27 April 2020 paid a courtesy call on the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Mamour Jobe at his office in Banjul. He was accompanied to the Police Headquarters by the Directors of Operations, Public Relations and his Military Assistant.

In his welcome remarks, the IGP Alhaji Mamour Jobe congratulated Major General Drammeh on his appointment to the enviable position of Chief of Defence Staff of the Gambia Armed Forces. The IGP used the opportunity to thank the former Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Masanneh N Kinteh for the support and excellent cordial relations he maintained with the various security services. He expressed hope that the new CDS, General Drammeh would continue from where his predecessor left off by sharing information and best practices. IGP Jobe indicated his readiness to extend similar gesture of support and cooperation to General Drammeh and the other Service Chiefs, while thanking the CDS for the invitation to attend the Pulling Out ceremony of his predecessor.

The Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Yakuba Drammeh for his part thanked the IGP and his Deputy for receiving him and his delegation at the Police Headquarters despite his busy schedule. He went on to appreciate the IGP for attending the Pulling Out ceremony of his predecessor noting that his presence had added color and impetus to the historic ceremony where he (CDS) officially took over command of the Armed Forces. General Drammeh assured the IGP of his readiness to work closely with the Gambia Police Force as well as the other Service Chiefs through collaboration and information sharing reiterating that it is only through cooperation that the security services could maintain peace and security in The Gambia. The CDS went further to state that he cherishes the cordial relations among the Security Chiefs which he characterized as based on mutual trust and respect while expressing the need to further explore other areas of collaboration such as joint training exercises in Public Order Management, Internal Security Operations and other technical areas of cooperation.

The two Services Chiefs exchanged gifts to symbolize and remind themselves of the visit and fruitful discussions that ensued from the meeting.
