Enlistment into the Gambia Armed Forces as a Soldier
A person shall be eligible for enlistment into the Gambia Armed Forces if he/she fulfills all of the following conditions:
Must be a Gambian.
Must be between the ages of 18 and 25.
Must be medically fit in accordance with Medical Standards of the Gambia Armed Forces.
Must attend and pass a Selection Board before recruit training.
Must possess a minimum educational qualification of Secondary School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent.
The person must be recommended by the Local Government Authority in the area in which he/she reside (if unemployed) or by his/her employer (if employed).
Male Recruits must be at least 1.65 meters in height and weight at least 60kg while female must be at least 1.63 meters in height and at least 55kg.
Tradesmen must hold the appropriate certificates and documents exemplifying their skil.
Enlistment into the Gambia Armed Forces as a Regular Combatant Commission Officer
Conditions for Enlistment.
REGULAR COMBATANT COMMISSION General Conditions. Persons who are granted RCC must have passed a Commission Selection Board (CSB) and must have successfully undergone training at a Military Academy or a recognised Officer School. Notwithstanding, persons who are granted Direct Short Service Commission and Executive Special Duty Commission may convert their commission to RCC after they have successfully passed the Special Commission Selection Board (CSB) and after they have successfully undergone the officers orientation training course. Selection for Officer Cadet Training. A person shall be eligible for selection for Officer Cadet Training if he/she fulfils all of the following conditions:
He/She must be Gambian citizen.
He/She must be between the ages of 18 and 22 at commencement of basis training.
He/She must be medically fit in accordance with the rules of medical standards of the Gambia Armed Forces.
He/She must attend and pass a Commission Selection Board.
He/She must possess any of the following minimum educational qualifications:
Higher Education Certificate or equivalent.
General Certificate of Education (GCE Advance Level) or equivalent (WASSSCE Grade 12).
He/She must be recommended as follows:
In the case of serving other ranks, he/she must be recommended by his Commanding Officer or equivalent.
In the case of a civilian who is employed, he/she must be recommended by his/her employer.
In the case of unemployed person, he/she must be recommended by the Local Government Authority of the area in which he/she resides.
DIRECT SHORT SERVICE COMMISSION
The Direct Short Service Commission (DSSC) shall be opened to professionals who have registered with professional bodies and are licensed to practice in any of the following disciplines:
Medicine.
Law.
Engineering.
Architecture.
Accountancy.
Information Technology.
Media.
Music.
Religious (Imams and Chaplains).
Any other profession as shall be decided by the Armed Forces Council.
The following conditions shall apply for grant of DSSC.
He/She must have registered with relevant professional bodies/association or must have the necessary accreditation to practice such profession.
He/She must be a Gambia citizen.
He/She must not be more than 35 years of age.
He/She must be recommended by his/her employer (if employed) or by a Local Government Authority in an area where he/she resides.
He/She must be medically fit in accordance with the Gambia Armed Forces standard medical rules.
He/She must attend and pass the Special Commission Recommendation Board.
He/She must undergo a basic training at the Gambia Armed Forces Training School.
He/She must re-engage every 6 years from the date of commission.
