THE GAMBIA ARMED FORCES ORGANISED PRESS CONFERENCE

The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) on Saturday 3 February 2018 organised a Press Conference at the Joint Officers Mess in Kotu where the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Masanneh N Kinteh briefed the print and electronic media on the activities and achievements of the GAF from January 2017   to December 2017.

He stated that in August last year, he had the opportunity to interact with the heads of virtually all the media houses in this country and that he made a promise to engage the Fourth Estate in a constructive manner to strengthen the cordial relations between the two institutions.

CDS WITH THE PRESS

“When I assumed the leadership of the Gambia Armed Forces in February last year, I quickly went on a countrywide tour of all military installations in the country and also met with Regional Governors as well as the local community elders. I made this move in order to make an assessment of our security posture. After this careful assessment, I carved out a vision for the Gambia Armed Forces and it runs thus: ‘A highly transformed, motivated, apolitical and non-tribally inclined Armed Forces that is fully equipped and prepared to execute its Constitutional roles, contributing meaningfully to national development and playing key roles in the maintenance of regional and global peace and stability and at the same time subjected to democratic civilian control and accountability’”.

Lieutenant General Kinteh posited that GAF had endeavored to achieve this vision by streamlining key areas of immediate intervention and also identifying the pillars that constitute human security.

The CDS went further to dilate on several key issues notably the following:

  1. Security Situation
  2. Balancing Liberty and Security
  3. Civil Disobedience
  4. The Unexpected Return of the 2 Generals
